Hyaluronic acid fillers (Restylane Silk, Juvederm Ultra) will last 6-9 months. Most will need fill-up by 4-6 months to maintain volume.
Avoid icing and post-injection manipulation the first night to prevent excessive swelling.
Touch-ups are best peformed 1-2 weeks after injection when all the swelling is gone.
Pain is tolerable and numbing cream also helps. Dr. Mao uses cannulas which further minimize pain level during injection.
Fat grafting into the red part of the lip is cautioned as the mobility of the lip may decrease fat survival.
Avoid permanent materials placed into the lip. Give yourself the option to change your mind.
